One Word: 2020
For the past few years, I've followed the practice of choosing One Word for the new year. The idea is to choose a word that represents not who I am now, but whom I aspire to be in the coming year— a word I can “live into” in 2020 for all aspects of my life— spiritually, emotionally, physically, and professionally. My Words in past years were Growth in 2017, Intentional in 2018, and Bold in 2019.
For 2020, my word is DETERMINED.
I made great strides in 2019 in my business by taking chances, trying new things, and betting on myself. As part of a Bold year, I tried and tested many new ideas and processes last year, but also abandoned some of them more quickly than others. This year, I have a specific focus area in mind, and I am committed to making it successful.
The word DETERMINED represents that commitment. I fell short of some lofty goals in 2019, and I intend to reach those goals in 2020. I’m heading into this new year with the most well-thought-out and concrete plan I’ve had since first starting the business. I have a clear roadmap for success, one that allows me to focus not just on the business and financial aspects of my life, but also keeps in mind what is most important; my family and friends, and making sure that I allow myself time to enjoy the success I plan to have.
I have a lot to do. This is going to be a busy, crazy year, with more professional engagements, more marketing and outreach to develop business, more visits to the gym, and more family activities (sports, plays, trips, and adventures). My level of commitment to the plan and focusing on what I need to do to move things forward will ultimately decide how successful I am at reaching my goals. In 2020, I am DETERMINED to reach them.
What is your One Word for 2020? Where do you need to change, and how can that change manifest itself in a word? Take some time to discern your One Word. Post it where you can see it every day; on your desktop at work, on the fridge, taped to your bathroom mirror (this year, mine is written at the top of my goal sheet and across the whiteboard in my office). Do your best to live into your One Word every day, and see where it takes you this year.
If you pick your One Word and then want to talk about how to live into it professionally, if you want someone to keep you accountable and establish the disciplines you need to become that person, let’s talk. Set up a conversation with me, and let’s get to work!
